Field Notes: January in Brazil Peer-Led Learning Speeds DR-TB Treatment Knowhow in African Countries
In January 2026, São Paulo saw the successful collaboration of PeerLINC Knowledge Hub and TB Alliance with Brazil’s National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) : hosting a five‑day learning event for six Portuguese‑speaking, high‑burden African countries: Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea‑Bissau, Mozambique, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
Blending expert lectures, interactive workshops, and site visits to frontline TB facilities—(from primary health centers like Jd São Nicolau and Vila Esperança, to specialist institutions such as Instituto Adolfo Lutz and Instituto Clemente Ferreira), the learning event allowed participants to ground themselves in theory, exchange real-world insights on how these can be applied or modified for their countries, capped by an observation of how Brazil’s health system puts these into practice, with the view of shaping a country plan that integrates this new knowledge with the realities of their country health systems.
