Mongolia Joins PeerLINC for Online Training on DR-TB and Special Topics
MONGOLIA-PHILIPPINES (ONLINE)—PeerLINC concluded a three-day online training on new regimens for drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) and other special TB topics. Held from 18 to 20 June 2025, the comprehensive knowledge-sharing session engaged clinicians and National TB Program (NTP) managers across Mongolia on critical updates to WHO-recommended regimens, including BPaLM/BPaL, and addressed key issues such as managing adverse drug reactions, DR-TB in pregnancy, TB-diabetes comorbidity, and modified regimens for drug-susceptible TB in special cases.
““This training reflects PeerLINC’s commitment to ensuring no country stands alone in the fight against TB. By sharing regional expertise, we strengthen each other’s health systems and equip our frontliners with the confidence and clarity needed to manage drug-resistant TB in real-world settings. More importantly, we design our training to carry over into country planning, so that what is learned leads to what is done.””
Hosted in close coordination with the Mongolia NTP, the training was delivered by PeerLINC’s team of subject matter experts including Dr. Irene Flores and Dr. Mamel Quelapio, who facilitated technical sessions, clinical discussions, and interactive case work to deepen the practical application of new knowledge. Survivor testimonials further grounded the discussions in lived experience.
Dr. Eden Mendoza-Hisey deliverered the introduction and training overview during the online course on new regimens for drug-resistant TB and other special TB topics, held online for Mongolia’s National TB Program from 18 to 20 June 2025.
Dr. Irene Flores, PeerLINC expert and principal investigator for the Philippines’ BPaLM/BPaL operational research, emphasized that such training goes beyond clinical updates.
Participants are expected to integrate learning outcomes into their country planning activities. Dedicated segments per training day focused on developing and refining Mongolia’s next steps in implementing shorter regimens and managing special TB cases at scale.
“ This is a conversation about patient-centered care—how we manage adverse effects compassionately, tailor regimens for pregnancy, and design treatment plans that reflect the complexities our patients bring,”
This peer-to-peer workshop forms part of PeerLINC’s growing Knowledge Hub initiative, which aims to expand access to tailored, country-specific capacity-building support in the rollout of new TB treatment guidelines.
